Wind Farm Elevations

The GIS thrust have been working to create a database of wind turbines throughout Ireland. This map shows the clusters of wind farms in relation to elevation. Farms with more turbines are predominately located on the west of the Island of Ireland. Greater concentrations of wind farms are predominantly located in areas of higher elevation while farms with fewer turbines/individual turbines are primarily located at lower elevations.  The highest peaks including the Mourne Mountains, the Sperrins and the Glens of Antrim do not have wind farms located on them because these are designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
