Re-Wind at WindEurope 2019 Bilbao Spain April 2-4 2019

The UCC Re-Wind team were invited to contribute to the workshop on “Accelerating Wind Turbine Circularity” jointly organised by WindEurope and the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic). The workshop took place on April 4th in Bilbao in parallel with the WindEurope Annual Conference.

Dr. Paul Leahy of Re-Wind’s UCC team gave an invited talk on Re-Wind’s work on repurposing wind turbine blades, featuring some of Re-Wind’s design concepts to the workshop session on “Design for circularity”.

The workshop was opened with presentations from WindEurope staff Ivan Pineda, Policy Director and Mihaela Dragan, Sustainability Analyst. It is clear that the wind industry is engaging with partners in other sectors, such as the composites and waste recovery sectors, as well as academic institutions in order to find sustainable end-of-life practices for decommissioned turbine blades.

The session also featured presentations from SiemensGamesa and David García of Tecnali on the BRIO project on wind turbine blade recycling.
